Dubai Silicon Oasis Permanent Art Installations
The Brief
Create two permanent public art installations for Dubai Silicon Oasis that would bring colour, light and interaction to the community’s outdoor public spaces, by day and by night.
My Role
As part of the Inspire team, I took the project from conceptual pitch through to securing the final locations and installation planning, working closely with the 3D design team, the fabrication team and the client.
The Concepts
Kaleidoscope is a ring of tall, mirrored pillars that turns daylight reflections into shifting patterns and, after dark, into a vivid display of coloured light. The Maze is a walk-through labyrinth of blue, red and purple glass panels whose colours and reflections change with the time of day and the viewer’s position.
The Challenge
Unlike a temporary event build, both pieces had to last. Materials, finishes and fixings were reviewed with the design and fabrication teams to make sure they would withstand UAE heat, humidity, sand and year-round outdoor use without losing their visual impact.
Outcome
Both concepts went on to be built as permanent landmarks at Dubai Silicon Oasis, where they continue to draw residents and visitors by day and by night.
